The Scandinavian School in Madrid is a Swedish school abroad. Founded back in 1944, the School has more than 60 years of experience, delivering Swedish education in a foreign environment.
The School is located in La Moraleja, a calm leafy suburb 15 km north of Madrid. The piece of land was bought by the Association of the Scandinavian School in 1973 and the premises, designed by a Swedish architect, were inaugurated in 1974. A major renovation and rebuilding project began in 2005 and is running at present. The School consists of various low brick buildings and enjoys spacious lovely grounds with several grassed areas, play-grounds, bushes and trees. We have a joined basket-, tennis- and football pitch. From the top of the school yard you will find a fantastic view over Madrid.

This means that those students whose mothertongue is Spanish, receive complementary education according to the Spanish curricula in language, literacy and social science. The teachers in question have a Spanish teacher education. The other students learn Spanish as a foreign language.
The students who graduate from Upper Secondary fulfil the qualification requirements for university entry at Nordic, and usuallly also at Spanish, universities. Since 10 years ago, the School offers a guest student program for Upper Secondary students from Sweden. These students spend one school year here, accomodated in Spanish families.
The School has students from all the Nordic countries and students from Spain of Nordic origin. Many students spend their whole school attendance here, others spend a few years, whilst their parents are working in Spain during a certain period of time.
An international pre-school section was inaugurated in 2005 and today more than 10 nationalities are represented at the Scandinavian School.
Currently enroled, school year 2007/2008, are some 190 children/students led by 32 teachers. This means a high teacher to student ratio. The students receive a very good attention and the teachers have time for every individual student.
