Upper Secondary

The Upper Secondary School follows the Swedish curriculum for the non-compulsory school system, Lpf 94.

Swedish upper secondary school gives students the basic skills needed to live and work in the community, and prepares them for further study. As of today, there are 17 national programmes, all of which are 3-year programmes. They provide a broad general education and elegibility to study at the university or post-secondary level.

Every program comprises 2.500 upper secondary credits and all of them include the eight core subjects of: English, the Arts, Physical Education and Health, Mathematics, General Science, Social Studies, Swedish (or Swedish as a Second Language) and Religion. Together the core subjects add up to 750 credits. Every program gets its character from its subjects specific to that program.

The Scandinavian School in Madrid offer two of the national programmes: Natural Science and Social Science

The Natural Science Program aims at providing scientifically based knowledge of the conditions of life and nature. It provides foundation primarily for further studies in the natural sciences and technology in higher education.

Our school examinations are Swedish and give the student the opportunity to apply for all universities in the Nordic countries. The students are offered the opportunity to do their examinations in both Swedish and Spanish, which in return opens up the opportunity to apply for universities in Spain as well. The national tests from Sweden are given in Mathematics, English, Swedish, Spanish and French.

We have initiated a cooperation project with several other schools in Madrid; ”Foro Europeo de Debate entre jovenes”, a European youth forum tied to the EU-Parliament. We offer two local courses, Spain-orientation and Spanish cultural history where the Spanish society is studied from different angles.
